Juvenile, School Law, & Child Custody

A Juvenile Court has jurisdiction for most cases that allege a child under the age of 18 committed a crime. In some instances, where the juvenile is over the age of 14, prosecutors may elect to try youth in adult Court. However, the vast majority of cases remain in the juvenile system. In Juvenile Court, the law encourages prosecutors to focus on intervention and rehabilitation for minors.

Minors may find themselves in Court for a variety of reasons:

School Suspensions/Expulsions

Delinquency Charges – similar to adult criminal violations.

Juvenile Traffic Offenses

Unruly Child Charges

In Juvenile Court the ‘trial’ so to speak is called an Adjudication. Following an Adjudication hearing, if the minor is determined to be a delinquent child, the Court proceeds to Disposition, which is similar to a sentencing hearing.

The good news: you don’t have to let your child face delinquency charges alone.

The concept of going to Court can be intimidating for an adult, and in many instances more so for a minor. At Stolly Law Offices, Ltd., we will work with you and your child to determine what defenses are available and – importantly – help your family get the resources needed to prevent more contact with the Court system. We are experienced in Juvenile Court proceedings as well as school discipline, adverse determination, sanctioning, and expulsion hearings. It is important to contact an experienced juvenile attorney right away to discuss your child’s rights.

Why Choose Us?

At Stolly Law Offices, Ltd. we believe in a practical, effective, and client- centered approach. When you are facing a legal challenge, those three elements are essential into choosing the correct legal counsel for you. Let us tell you how we put those principals to work for you:

01

Practical

Nobody really wants to be in Court. At Stolly, we always aim to explain things clearly and give our clients a ‘roadmap’ of their legal situation. Next comes common sense advice and counsel on what to do next. Then, and only then, do you as the client, make the decision on how to move forward. Short and simple, if we can solve a problem out of Court, great. If we have to take the dispute all the way to trial, let’s take it to the jury box.

02

Client-Centered

This is your case. At the end of the day, this is a fact that is too often forgotten by attorneys. We spend hours in the courtroom and researching various matters. That is great: but this is your case, and it matters to you. At Stolly Law Offices, Ltd., our goal is always to meet clients ‘where they are’ in the legal process. Not every client is the same. For some, this is their first contact with the legal system. Others have more experience. Our goal is representation and advocacy that fits you. Ask us questions, we will answer what we can. In short, we will be with you every step of the way through your case.

03

Effective

A good lawyer doesn’t argue, they negotiate. The most convincing argument is almost never the loudest in the room. When I was a Prosecutor, I frequently asked criminal defense attorneys to ‘give me a reason’ to reduce or dismiss a charge. As a criminal defense attorney, that power of persuasion is the first tool out of my bag to disarm the State and start making things better for clients – no matter the charge or dispute.
